About


In 2005 the Austrian National Council established the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria by an Act of Parliament, which is to provide scholarships for all areas of education and further education.

The scholarships are awarded by the foundation board from funds of the Conciliation Fund of the Republic of Austria for descendents of forced labourers or people coming from countries that have suffered exceptionally from the Nazi regime, particularly from the recruitment of forced labourers.

Target groups


  • Undergraduates, Graduates and Postgraduates wishing to pursue research in Austria in regard to their diploma, master thesis or theirdissertation can apply for this scholarship. Scholarships are also awarded for research periods at scientific research institutions (e.g. universities, Austrian Academy of Sciences, National Library, National Archive) for a period of 1 to 4 months (extension are not possible within the same programme).Closing dates for applications: 01st March and 01st September each year
  • Postdocs, working at universities outside of Austria wishing to pursue research in Austria can apply for a research stay at scientific research institutions (e.g. universities, Austrian Academy of Sciences, National Library, National Archive) in Austria. Duration of stay is limited to a maximum of 12 months (extension are not possible within the same program).Closing dates for applications: 01st March and 01st September each year
  • Persons wishing to pursue a master degree programme in the field of international relations which directly entitle the graduate to study in a doctoral/PhD programme at a post-secondary educational institution can apply for this scholarship. Scholarships are awarded for 10 months (one-time extension for a maximum of another 10 months is possible when successful study progress can be proved).

Eligibility


— descendents of forced labourers (regardless of their country of origin)
— or people coming from countries that have suffered exceptionally from the Nazi regime, especially from the recruitment of forced labourers.

Students meeting the above mentioned criteria can apply to pursue research

— on their bachelor thesis
— on their diploma or master thesis
— or their dissertation.
No scholarships are awarded for Bachelor-, Master- or Doctoral/PhD studies pursued in Austria, summer courses, language courses, clinical traineeships or internships.

Applicants must not have studied/pursued research/pursued academic work in Austria in the last six months before taking up the grant.

Age limit:
Doctoral students: 40 years (born on or after September 1, 1976)
for other students: 35 years (born on or after September 1, 1981)
